FASS Diesel Nationals a Huge Success

BROWNSBURG, Indiana
Despite severe weather that caused some 30 Million dollars in damage throughout the Indianapolis area Friday May 30th, and $5.00 per gallon fuel prices; the FASS Diesel Nationals went on as scheduled to great success.

Storms rumbled through the Indianapolis area Friday night, including several tornado touchdowns, causing widespread destruction. Despite the storms, the 9th Annual FASS Diesel Nationals started Saturday morning, with sunny skies and a huge crowd.

The opening ceremony Sunday morning included the Blackwater Parachute Team. Landing the Amercian flag in sync with the National Anthem. Saturday's practice jump gave attendees a taste of what was to come on finals day.

Drag Racing winners included Kevin Meredith of Bowling Green, Kentucky with a 15.582 at 76.88 MPH and a reaction time of .036 during ET Bracket competition. In Quick Diesel, it was Karl Mireiter of Wooster, Ohio with a 11.984 at 110.40 MPH, runner-up Ron Stutz who had an 11.921 at 113.93 MPH was just a little further away from that 12.00 index. Mireiter's reaction time of .082 was the diffierence as Stutz' reaction time was nearly double at a .157.

Pro Street competition saw last year's champion Chris Calkins of St. Clair, Missouri take the win with a 9.984 at 132.26 MPH over Meacham Evins with a 10.428 and 126.53 MPH. Top Diesel class wrapped up the drag racing with Chad Riley taking the win with a 9.057 and 140.46 MPH over Bo Layne who knocked down a 8.008 at 180.28 MPH, in his first side by side drag race.

The DieselPower! Additives Sled Pulling series saw plenty of action with a big turnout of vehicles. Because of weather concerns during the finals on Sunday afternoon, a floating finish was utilized. In Work Stock, Randy Doss took the win with a distance of 319.03 over runner-up Chris Wilson's 318.09. In Street Diesel action, Matt McIntosh blew out to a 320.01 to trake the win. Runner-up was Blair Beyer with a distance of 315.1.

In Super Street, Ric Scrimager took the win at a whopping 353.01 while runner-up Bo Layne was at 333.11. Wesley Kuzlick took the win in Pro Modified Diesel with a 315.08. Runner-up was Rod Tarr with his "Powerstrokeless" at a distance of 313.06. Topping off the drag racing was the Super Modified Diesel class that saw Terry Martin grab the win with a 318.0 over runner-up Ben Miller's 298.03.

Not mother nature, not high fuel prices, not even a change in the name; nothing was stopping the nearly 16,000 people from attending the show. Diesel enthusiasts have spoken loud and clear that passion rules over economy at the FASS Diesel Nationals.

The next event for the Diesel Hot Rod Association is Saturday, June 7th at the Hancock County Fairgrounds in Findlay, Ohio. The Buckeye Bash will feature the DieselPower! Additives Sled Pulling Series. Competitor Gate opens at 4:00pm, the General Admission gate at 5:00pm and pulling action starts at 7:00 pm.
