The DHRA Texas Diesel Nationals takes place at Houston Raceway Park (HRP) in Baytown, Texas, on October 11-12, 2008. The drag racing portion of the event is called the "Nowel Thomas Memorial Drags".
This event is organized and operated by DieselSport Promotions and Diesel Hot Rod Association, Inc.
The event began in 2002 when Diesel Innovations (DI) set up at the “Clash of the Titans” event but due to a rain-out, that event was moved to San Antonio; Nowel Thomas showed up to race at that first event. Based on the great turnout for diesels, DI decided to make it a yearly event which would include a pre-race party at DI’s shop where they could treat their customers, friends and guests to Texas hospitality. In 2003, DHRA was invited to include this event as a point’s stop. Richard Madsen and Nowel Thomas packed up and headed to Texas to represent DHRA. Nowel was on his way to the race when he suffered a fatal brain aneurism in Albuquerque during a fuel stop. DI decided to rename the event “The Nowel Thomas Diesel Drags” as a memorial to Mr. Thomas, a diesel head extraordinaire, DHRA cofounder, and someone who always lent a hand whenever there was a diesel problem nearby.
Today, the event has become the DHRA Texas Diesel Nationals, and Nowel is still a part of the event. Come out enjoy a memorable day during the Nowel Thomas Memorial Drags.
